Dr. Juan Alfonso Fung
Dr. Juan Alfonso Fung Arroyo is an anesthesiologist and critical care physician based in Cancún. For most TrueCell patients he is the first physician they speak to: he leads the initial consultation, reviews history, imaging and laboratory results, and confirms whether a protocol is appropriate before anything is scheduled. On treatment days he is responsible for sedation, monitoring and patient safety.
He earned his medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (1997 to 2002), then completed a residency in anesthesiology (2006 to 2009) and a second specialty in adult critical care medicine (2009 to 2011), both at Hospital Ángeles del Pedregal in Mexico City. He is certified by the Mexican Council of Anesthesiology and holds Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support credentials.
Alongside his work with TrueCell, his career spans eight years as an attending intensive care physician at IMSS Hospital General de Zona 13 in Matamoros (2011 to 2019), a professorship in anesthesiology at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas medical school (2011 to 2016), and the role of medical director and lead anesthesiologist at Playa Surgery Center in Playa del Carmen (2019 to 2022), with anesthesia and intensive care practice in Cancún and Cozumel. He cares for patients in Spanish and English.
